What details Cliquéalo asks for to publish a car, which ones are required, which are optional, how to register the VIN, how to fill in the specifications, and what consignment means.
Complete, accurate details help your car show up in more searches and get approved faster in review. Incorrect or incomplete details are a reason for rejection.

In the wizard
Make
«¿Qué auto vas a vender?» ("What car are you going to sell?"). Type in «Busca tu marca» ("Search for your make") or tap one from the list. If it doesn't appear: «No encontramos esa marca. Revisa la ortografía.» ("We couldn't find that make. Check the spelling.").
Model
«¿Qué modelo de …?» ("Which … model?"). Type in «Busca el modelo» ("Search for the model") or choose from the list. If you change the make, the model is cleared and you choose it again.
Year
«¿De qué año es?» ("What year is it?"): the model year, as it appears on the vehicle registration card. The list shows recent years. If your car is older, tap «Mi auto es más antiguo» ("My car is older"), type the year, and tap «Continuar» ("Continue").
Body style, transmission, fuel, and color
Tap the option that applies. Each question moves ahead on its own.
Mileage
«¿Cuántos kilómetros tiene?» ("How many kilometers does it have?"). Type the number or tap a suggestion (from 5,000 to 180,000 km). «Un aproximado está bien; puedes ajustarlo después.» ("An estimate is fine; you can adjust it later.").
VIN
«¿Tienes el VIN a la mano?» ("Do you have the VIN handy?"). Type the 17 characters and then again in «Confirma el VIN» ("Confirm the VIN"). «Continuar» ("Continue") turns on when the VIN is valid and both match. If you don't have it, tap «Ahora no» ("Not now") and you continue without it. We explain it below, in Register the VIN.
In «Así se verá tu anuncio» ("This is how your ad will look"), if a required detail is missing you see «Faltan datos por completar. Toca el lápiz en los campos vacíos para terminarlos.» ("Some details are missing. Tap the pencil on the empty fields to finish them.") and «Me gusta, publicar» ("Looks good, publish") stays disabled until you complete it. Details that aren't filled in say «Sin especificar» ("Not specified"). Optional details you left for later, like the VIN or the location, also say «Sin especificar», but they don't stop you from publishing.
In the panel form
- Make and model. Type in «Buscar marca» ("Search make") and «Buscar modelo» ("Search model") and choose from the list. If your make or model doesn't exist, tap «Crear marca nueva» ("Create new make") or «Crear modelo nuevo» ("Create new model") and type the name: «Se agregará al catálogo con ese nombre.» ("It will be added to the catalog with that name."). To go back to the list, tap «Elegir existente» ("Choose existing"). With a keyboard, move through the list with the arrow keys, choose with Enter, and close it with Escape.
- Trim. For example «Ej. Platinum 4x4» ("E.g. Platinum 4x4").
- VIN (serial number). The 17 characters on the registration card and the windshield. It's optional and private: your ad only shows «VIN registrado» ("VIN on file"). You type it twice, in «VIN (número de serie)» ("VIN (serial number)") and in «Confirma el VIN» ("Confirm the VIN"), and once it's saved it can't be changed. We explain it below, in Register the VIN.
- «Motor» ("Engine"), «Cilindros» ("Cylinders"), «Tracción» ("Drivetrain"), and «Procedencia» ("Origin"). They're the car's specifications and sit next to the VIN. We explain them below, in the Specifications section.
- «Título público (ES)» ("Public title (ES)") and «Descripción (ES)» ("Description (ES)"). If you leave the title empty, «Se genera automáticamente si queda vacío» ("It's generated automatically if left empty"). The description allows up to 4,000 characters; describe the condition, the maintenance, and the equipment.
- English. With the language switch you go from «Solo español» ("Spanish only") to «Visible en ES / EN» ("Visible in ES / EN"), and «Public title (EN)» and «Description (EN)» appear.
- Web address. It's generated from the make, model and year plus a few characters that make it unique (for example,
/publicaciones/mazda-3-2021-a1b2). It can't be edited, and if you change the car's details the address stays the same so links you already shared keep working.
Don't put phone numbers or links in the text
A phone number, a WhatsApp number, an email, or a social network in the title, the description, or the photos, meant to take the sale outside Cliquéalo, gets the ad rejected. Buyers contact you from the ad.
Register the VIN
The VIN (serial number) is the 17 characters that identify your car. They're on the registration card and the windshield. It's optional and private: your ad only shows "VIN on file". Registering it earns your ad points; see How complete your ad is.
Once it's saved, the VIN can't be changed
Nobody changes or deletes it afterward: not you, not your team, not the Cliquéalo team. That's why you type it twice. Compare it with the registration card before saving.
Before you start
- Have the registration card at hand or look at the VIN on the windshield.
- Have the car's year ready: the VIN carries the model year and it has to be the same as the ad's.
Type the VIN
In the wizard, in «¿Tienes el VIN a la mano?» ("Do you have the VIN handy?"). In the panel form, in «VIN (número de serie)» ("VIN (serial number)"), when you create the car or in «Editar publicación» ("Edit ad") if it doesn't have a VIN yet. Letters switch to uppercase on their own, and spaces and hyphens don't count.
Type it again in «Confirma el VIN» ("Confirm the VIN")
This field doesn't let you paste or drag text: type it by hand, character by character, looking at the registration card. When the VIN is valid and both are the same, below it says «Coinciden» ("They match").
Check and save
Next to the fields you see «Una vez guardado, el VIN ya no se puede cambiar.» ("Once it's saved, the VIN can't be changed."). Check one last time and tap «Continuar» ("Continue") in the wizard, or save or publish in the panel.
What gets checked
It checks that the VIN has 17 characters, that it doesn't use the letters I, O, or Q, that each character is in its position, that its 9th character matches the rest, and that its model year is the ad's year. In the wizard it's checked as you type: below each field you see how many characters you have, for example «12 de 17 caracteres» ("12 of 17 characters"), or what to fix. In the panel form, the format is checked when you leave the field and the year, when you save.
If you type it twice and they aren't the same, you see «El VIN y su confirmación no coinciden. Revisa los dos carácter por carácter.» ("The VIN and its confirmation don't match. Check both character by character.").
How it looks afterward
The car doesn't have a registered VIN yet: you left it empty or tapped «Ahora no» in the wizard.
What you can do: Register it whenever you want in «Editar publicación», with the same two fields.
In «Editar publicación», the VIN shows fixed below «VIN (número de serie)», with no field to type in. On your ad, buyers see "VIN on file".
What you can do: Edit everything else. The year has to be the model year the VIN indicates.
- In the wizard, until you publish you can correct the VIN with the pencil in «Así se verá tu anuncio» ("This is how your ad will look"). When you publish, it's registered.
- The form's autosaved copies don't keep what you typed in «Confirma el VIN». If you recover a copy, type it again before saving. See Autosaved copies.
- If Mercado Libre asks for the VIN of a car that doesn't have one, you can also register it from the Mercado Libre wizard, typing it twice the same way. See Mercado Libre in Cliquéalo.
If the VIN is wrong
A saved VIN can't be corrected. If you made a mistake, take that ad down and publish the car again with the correct VIN:
Archive the ad with the wrong VIN
In your inventory, tap «Seleccionar» ("Select"), check the car, choose «Cambiar estado» ("Change status"), and in «Estado para aplicar» ("Status to apply") choose Archivado (Archived). It leaves the catalog and frees its spot in your plan. See Actions on several cars at once.
Publish the car again
Create a new ad with its details and photos, and type the correct VIN twice. See Publish a car step by step.
The usual case
You get it right the first time
You type the VIN, type it again in «Confirma el VIN», you see «Coinciden», and you save. Your ad shows "VIN on file" and the ad earns the VIN's points.
Something doesn't work the first time
The two entries aren't the same
You see «El VIN y su confirmación no coinciden. Revisa los dos carácter por carácter.». Compare each character with the registration card, fix the wrong one, and save again. Until you save, you can correct both fields.
Worst case
You saved a wrong VIN
It can no longer be changed or deleted. Archive that ad and publish the car again with the correct VIN, as explained in If the VIN is wrong.
Special case
You change the year of a car with a VIN
If the car already has a registered VIN, the year has to be the model year that VIN indicates. If you save a different one, you get an error and nothing is saved. If the year you typed is the right one, the VIN is the wrong one: follow If the VIN is wrong.
Specifications: engine, cylinders, drivetrain, and origin
They're four optional details that are only captured in the panel form, when you create a car and in «Editar publicación» ("Edit ad"). The wizard at cliquealo.mx/anuncia doesn't ask for them: if you published there, add them later by editing the car. See Edit an ad.
- «Motor» ("Engine"). In liters, with one decimal, from 0.6 to 9.9. The field already shows the «L» at the end; type only the number, for example 2.0.
- «Cilindros» ("Cylinders"). A whole number from 2 to 16.
- «Tracción» ("Drivetrain"). «Sin especificar» ("Not specified"), «Delantera» ("Front"), «Trasera» ("Rear"), «4x2», «4x4», or «Integral (AWD)».
- «Procedencia» ("Origin"). «Sin especificar» ("Not specified"), «Nacional» ("Domestic"), or «Importado» ("Imported").
If you leave a detail empty or on «Sin especificar», it doesn't appear on your ad. None is required to publish.
Factory data from the VIN
If you register the VIN, Cliquéalo looks up that car's factory data and suggests it so you don't have to type it by hand.
Type the VIN and leave the field
Type the 17 characters in «VIN (número de serie)» ("VIN (serial number)") and move to the next field. If the VIN is valid, below it you see «Buscando los datos de fábrica del VIN…» ("Looking up the VIN's factory data…").
Check what it found
If there's data, a box appears that starts with «Según el VIN:» ("According to the VIN:") followed by the make, the model, and the year and, when available, the engine (for example «1.8 L · 4 cilindros» ("1.8 L · 4 cylinders")), the drivetrain, and «Hecho en» ("Built in") with the city and country, or only the country, where the car was built. Below it says «Son datos de fábrica del VIN. Revísalos: tú decides qué se publica.» ("This is the VIN's factory data. Check it: you decide what gets published.").
Use it or ignore it
Tap «Usar motor y tracción» ("Use engine and drivetrain") to fill in «Motor», «Cilindros», and «Tracción» with what the VIN brings; whatever it doesn't bring stays as it was. Tap «Ignorar» ("Ignore") to close the box without changing anything.
Check and save
The details stay in the form and you can correct them. They're saved when you save the ad.
- The suggestion doesn't change the make, the model, the year, or the origin. You choose those.
- If the VIN doesn't bring engine, cylinders, or drivetrain, in the box you only see «Ignorar».
- Not every VIN has factory data. If there's none, the box doesn't appear and you enter the specifications by hand.
- When you edit a car that already has a registered VIN, the lookup doesn't run again: that VIN no longer changes.
If the VIN's make isn't your car's
If the make the VIN brings doesn't match the make you chose for the ad, the box says «La marca del VIN no coincide con la que elegiste. Revisa que el VIN sea de este auto.» ("The VIN's make doesn't match the one you chose. Check that the VIN belongs to this car."). It happens when you create a car and when you edit one that doesn't have a VIN yet, and the notice updates if you change the make. Compare the VIN with the registration card and the windshield before saving: afterward it can't be changed.
What buyers see
In your ad's "Specifications", next to the other car details, only the ones with data appear:
- "Engine", with the liters and the cylinders, for example "2.0 L · 4 cylinders". If you only entered one of the two, only that one shows.
- "Drivetrain" and "Origin", with the option you chose.
- "Built in", with the city and country, or only the country, where the car was built according to its VIN. You don't enter this detail: it comes from the registered VIN, even if you tapped «Ignorar». Without a VIN it doesn't appear.
The VIN is never shown. Buyers only see "VIN on file".
If you incorporate cars from Mercado Libre, the engine, cylinders, and drivetrain are also brought in when the Mercado Libre ad has them. See Incorporate and reconcile Mercado Libre cars.
The usual case
The VIN brings the factory data
You type the VIN, the «Según el VIN:» box appears, and you tap «Usar motor y tracción». You check that the engine, cylinders, and drivetrain are correct, choose the origin, and save. Your ad shows those details in its "Specifications".
Something doesn't work the first time
The VIN brings only part of it
For example, it brings the engine but not the drivetrain. «Usar motor y tracción» fills in what's there and you choose the rest. If it brings nothing about the engine or drivetrain, you only see «Ignorar».
Worst case
There's no factory data for your VIN
After «Buscando los datos de fábrica del VIN…» no box appears. Enter the engine, cylinders, drivetrain, and origin by hand. Your VIN stays registered just the same.
Special case
The VIN's make doesn't match
The box warns «La marca del VIN no coincide con la que elegiste. Revisa que el VIN sea de este auto.». Compare the VIN with the registration card. If it was wrong, correct it in both fields before saving; if it's right, check the ad's make: when you choose the right one, the notice goes away.
Consignment or own inventory
Each car is marked as «Inventario propio» ("Own inventory"), meaning it's yours, or «Consigna» ("Consignment"), meaning you sell it on someone else's behalf. You see it in the car's summary and in «Ficha en Cliquéalo» ("Cliquéalo spec sheet") as «En consigna: Sí» ("On consignment: Yes") or «No».
- The cars you publish with the wizard or with the panel form are set as «Inventario propio». These forms don't have a field to change it.
- It matters for quotes: some credit products only apply to own inventory or only to consignment. See Workspace.
The usual case
Something doesn't work the first time
Your model isn't in the catalog
In the panel, tap «Crear modelo nuevo» and type it. In the wizard you can only choose from the list; if it isn't there, publish it from the panel.
Worst case
Details that don't match the photos
If the make, the year, or the mileage don't match the car in the photos, the team may reject it with the reason «Datos del vehículo incorrectos o incompletos» ("Incorrect or incomplete vehicle details"). Correct them and publish it again.
Special case
Car older than 1950
It can't be entered: the minimum year is 1950.
Errors and how to fix them
What you see · Wizard, «¿De qué año es?» step
«Escribe un año válido (desde 1950).»
Enter a valid year (from 1950).
What it means. The year you typed is before 1950 or after next year.
What to do.
- Type the year from the vehicle registration card with four digits.
What you see · Panel form, when saving
«Falta elegir el tipo de carrocería.»
You still need to choose the body style.
What it means. You didn't choose the body style. The same happens with «Falta elegir la transmisión.» ("You still need to choose the transmission.") and «Falta elegir el combustible.» ("You still need to choose the fuel.").
What to do.
- Choose the missing option.
- Save again.
What you see · Panel form, when saving
«Selecciona un color válido.»
Select a valid color.
What it means. The color is empty or isn't from the list.
What to do.
- Open «Color» and choose one from the list.

«Modelo no pertenece a la marca seleccionada.»
Model doesn't belong to the selected make.
What it means. You changed the make and a model from the previous make was left.
What to do.
- Search for the model again within the correct make.

«Valor debe ser ≤ 10.»
Value must be ≤ 10.
What it means. You entered more than 10 doors. Similar messages appear if a number is outside its range, for example «Valor debe ser ≥ 1950.» ("Value must be ≥ 1950.") for the year.
What to do.
- Correct the number and save again.

«Texto demasiado largo.»
Text too long.
What it means. The trim, the title, or the description goes over the character limit.
What to do.
- Shorten the text and save again.
What you see · Panel form, below «Motor»
«No puede pasar de 9.9 L.»
It can't be more than 9.9 L.
What it means. The engine goes in liters, not cubic centimeters. If you type less than 0.6, you see «No puede ser menor a 0.6 L.» ("It can't be less than 0.6 L."). In «Cilindros» you see «No puede ser menor a 2.» ("It can't be less than 2.") and «No puede pasar de 16.» ("It can't be more than 16.").
What to do.
- Type the liters with one decimal, for example 2.0. If you know the engine in cubic centimeters (for example, 1,998), divide it by 1,000 and round to one decimal: 2.0.
- In «Cilindros», type a number from 2 to 16.
- If you don't know the detail, leave the field empty: it's optional.
What you see · Panel form, when saving
«El motor va en litros, entre 0.6 y 9.9. Ej. 2.0»
The engine goes in liters, between 0.6 and 9.9. E.g. 2.0
What it means. When saving, the engine isn't a valid number of liters. The same happens with the cylinders, and you see «Los cilindros van de 2 a 16.» ("Cylinders go from 2 to 16.").
What to do.
- Correct the number or leave the field empty.
- Save again.

«Elige la tracción de la lista.»
Choose the drivetrain from the list.
What it means. The drivetrain isn't one of the options on the list. With the origin you see «Elige la procedencia de la lista.» ("Choose the origin from the list.").
What to do.
- Open the field and choose an option, or «Sin especificar».
- Save again.
What you see · «VIN (número de serie)» field or «¿Tienes el VIN a la mano?» step
«El VIN tiene 17 caracteres y escribiste 16.»
The VIN has 17 characters and you typed 16.
What it means. The VIN is missing a character or has one too many. The number changes depending on what you typed. In the same place you may see «El VIN no usa las letras I, O ni Q. Revisa si en su lugar va 1 o 0.» ("The VIN doesn't use the letters I, O, or Q. Check whether it should be 1 or 0 instead."), «El VIN tiene caracteres que no van en su posición: el 9 es un número o X, y el 10 no puede ser U, Z ni 0.» ("The VIN has characters that don't belong in their position: the 9th is a number or X, and the 10th can't be U, Z, or 0.") or «El VIN no cuadra con su carácter 9, que lo verifica. Revisa que no hayas confundido 8 con B, 5 con S o 2 con Z.» ("The VIN doesn't match its 9th character, which checks it. Make sure you didn't mix up 8 and B, 5 and S, or 2 and Z.").
What to do.
- Compare the VIN, character by character, with the registration card.
- Correct it and type it the same way in «Confirma el VIN».
What you see · «¿Tienes el VIN a la mano?» step, or panel form when saving
«El VIN es de un auto año modelo 2020 y la publicación dice 2021.»
The VIN is from a model year 2020 car and the ad says 2021.
What it means. The VIN carries the car's model year and it isn't the ad's year. Both years change depending on your case.
What to do.
- Check the model year on the registration card.
- If the ad's year is wrong, correct it. If the VIN is wrong and you haven't saved it yet, correct it in both fields.
- If the car already has a registered VIN, use the year the VIN indicates. If that VIN is the wrong one, see If the VIN is wrong.
What you see · Panel form, when saving
«Escribe el VIN otra vez en «Confirma el VIN».»
Type the VIN again in «Confirma el VIN» (Confirm the VIN).
What it means. You typed the VIN but left «Confirma el VIN» empty. Nothing was saved.
What to do.
- Type the VIN by hand in «Confirma el VIN».
- Save again.

- Compare both fields with the registration card, character by character.
- Fix the wrong one until you see «Coinciden» and save again.
What you see · Panel form when saving, or Mercado Libre wizard
«Este auto ya tiene su VIN registrado y no se puede cambiar.»
This car already has its VIN registered and it can't be changed.
What it means. While you had the screen open, someone registered this car's VIN, for example you in another tab or someone on your team. A registered VIN no longer changes.
What to do.
- Reload the page: you'll see the registered VIN, fixed.
- If that VIN is correct, you don't have to do anything else. If it's wrong, see If the VIN is wrong.
What you see · Panel form when saving, or Mercado Libre wizard
«El año no corresponde al VIN registrado de este auto. Usa el año modelo que indica el VIN.»
The year doesn't match this car's registered VIN. Use the model year the VIN indicates.
What it means. The car already has a registered VIN and the year you want to save isn't the model year that VIN indicates. With the VIN fixed, the year has to be the VIN's. Nothing was saved.
What to do.
- Change the year to the model year on the registration card, which is the one the VIN indicates.
- If the year you typed is the right one, the registered VIN is the wrong one: see If the VIN is wrong.
What you see · When publishing or saving
«Ya tienes otra publicación activa con este VIN. Si es el mismo auto, edita esa publicación.»
You already have another active ad with this VIN. If it's the same car, edit that ad.
What it means. Another one of your ads that isn't sold or archived already has that VIN.
What to do.
- If it's the same car, don't publish it twice: edit the ad you already have.
- If it's another car, check the VIN you typed.
